Dr. Michael Apostolakos holding Consumer Choice AwardFew decisions in life deserve more careful consideration than those that affect your health and well-being. So when you need hospital care of any kind, it really pays to do your homework and take a close look at a hospital's "report card" for providing patients with consistently high-quality care.

One of the nation's most trusted sources for objective information about quality of care and patient satisfaction issues comes from the National Research Corporation (NRC). For the last decade, NRC's annual Healthcare Market Guide has surveyed hundreds of thousands of people across the U.S. to get a handle on their experiences and satisfaction with the quality of care they've received from hospitals and doctors in their local areas.

Each year, NRC's Market Guide publicly recognizes local hospitals for their achievements in delivering high-quality patient care. And this year, for the 12th year in a row, NRC has awarded its highest level of recognition—the Consumer Choice Award—to Rochester's own Strong Memorial Hospital.

What Strong's Consumer Choice Award Means for You

According to the National Research Corporation, the Consumer Choice Award indicates that a healthcare facility has achieved a level of service that is valued by consumers in the markets it serves.

"We are delighted that Strong Memorial Hospital has again been recognized as Rochester 's most preferred hospital," said Robert Panzer, M.D., chief quality officer of Strong Health. "This recognition reflects the success of our staff in meeting the increasingly difficult challenge of providing care that is patient-centered, safe, high-quality, and cost-effective."

Strong Earns Top Rankings in Key Categories

According to the NRC's 2006/2007 survey results, Rochester-area consumers singled out Strong as their first choice for:

Significance of the NRC Survey

NRC's Healthcare Market Guide is the most comprehensive image/preference study of its kind, containing more consumer responses than any other study. The 2005/06 study surveyed over 200,000 households representing 400,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia—giving it a margin of error of + or - 0.2 percent at a national level.
