What to Bring (and Not to Bring) For Your Hospital Stay

Items to leave at home

  • Please leave valuables at home. The Hospital cannot assume responsibility for personal items kept in patient rooms.
  • Do not bring a cellular phone. They are not permitted in patient care areas; they may interfere with heart monitors and other patient monitoring equipment.
  • Remember that smoking is not permitted in the Medical Center. The Hospital prohibits smoking to protect the health of our patients, visitors and staff. If you smoke, we ask that you leave your smoking materials at home.

Things to bring for an SDA surgery or procedure

  • Medication list
  • Medical insurance information
  • Glasses or contact lenses
  • Hearing aid
  • Dentures
  • Slippers
  • Important phone numbers
  • Hair clips or rubber bands if needed to groom longer hair
  • Reading material, crossword puzzles
  • A small amount of cash (under $25) for incidentals
  • Clothing for the time of discharge

The Hospital provides gowns for our patients. Personal bedclothes may be worn with approval from the nursing staff.

Toiletries

The Hospital provides basic toiletries for each patient. Please feel free to speak with your nurse if you require additional items.

Appliances

Appliances (such as electrical hair dryers, cassette or CD players, electric razors, TV’s, computers or other video equipment) should not be brought with you to the Hospital. These items do not have hospital-grade wiring and, therefore, do not meet New York State safety standards for use in Hospitals.
