Going Home

After you arrive home please keep the following in mind:

  • Pain medication can cause nausea so you may want to eat prior to taking your medication.
  • Pain medication can cause constipation. We suggest frequent short walks, a high fiber diet, and plenty of liquids to help prevent constipation, unless these activities are prohibited by your surgeon.
  • Complete the entire prescription of any post-operative antibiotic instructed to take.
  • Keep discharge instructions on hand and follow them for the optimal outcome.
  • Follow any special instructions you were given.
  • Immediately report any problems you experience to your doctor.

For Ambulatory Surgery Center patients:

  • Call the Surgical Center at 585-275-8256 if you have any questions or concerns about your visit to the Center.
  • Strong Surgical Center nurses provide continuity of care for their patients with a follow-up telephone call to see how you are feeling. Feel free to share your concerns or questions with the nurse.
