Scheduling Your Surgery/Procedure & Pre-admission Visit

Doctor meeting with patient

You and your doctor have decided that you need surgery. Your doctor's office will schedule your surgery or procedure and a pre-admission visit to help you. The office will contact you with the dates and times of your surgery/procedure and pre-admission appointment. If you do not hear from your doctor's office, call to confirm your appointments.

In some cases, your physician may perform all required physical exams, tests, and pre-procedure teaching in his/her office.

If you've been scheduled for a pre-admission appointment, you are ready to begin your journey with us. Before you come in for your pre-admission visit, you will want to review the map to the pre-admission center. For maps to other surgery-related areas within Strong Memorial Hospital, see our "Helpful Maps" section below.

Based on the type of surgery/procedure you are having, you will be scheduled as one of the following:

  • Same Day Admission (SDA). Patients come to the hospital the day of their surgery and are admitted to the hospital following it.
  • 23-hour Stay. Patients are scheduled for an outpatient procedure but then remain in an inpatient bed for up to 23 hours for post-surgery/post-procedure monitoring.
  • Ambulatory Surgery (ASC). This option is one in which patients arrive as outpatients, receive their surgery/procedure, recover for a time in the Surgery Center, and then return home.
The following information will prove beneficial to you regardless of the type of stay your surgeon has planned with you.
