The Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN®)
The Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN®) course was developed to teach established standards of trauma care and practical life-saving skills to nurses.
The ATCN® Provider Course is taught concurrently with the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®) course for physicians. This program was designed for the experienced trauma nurse working in the emergency department, perioperative area, intensive care, medical and surgical units as well as prehospital setting.
ATCN® provides the nurse with critical thinking gained through didactic lectures, practicum stations and moulage assessment stations. Upon completion of this program, the nurse will be able to understand the principles of primary and secondary patient assessments establish priorities in a trauma situation and demonstrate skills in the management of the multiply traumatized patient.
The ATCN® course is two full days beginning at 0700 until 1730. Upon successful completion the nurse will receive 19.9 contact hours. All those whom qualify for tuition reimbursement may do so with this certification. Certification is valid for four years.
The ATCN® course was developed by the Society of Trauma Nurses, an Internationally accredited nursing body. ATCN® is also sanctioned by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.
