Strong Regional Trauma Center
Trauma Education Programs
The Advanced Trauma Life Support Program (ATLS®)
ATLS® Course provides a structure in which the participant will
learn to identify injuries associated with major trauma as well
as the management skills required for proper early resuscitation
and treatment of injured patients.
Specific emphasis is placed on:
- Rapid and accurate patient assessment
- Establishing priorities in the resuscitation of trauma patients
- Ability to recognize injuries which exceed a facility's capabilities
- Abitlity to arrange rapid and safe inter-hospital transfer
As a national standard in trauma education, the ATLS® course
provides participants with the basic skills required for timely
managment of traumatic injury. The course format involves both
didactic and practical sessions, with all skills taught using state-of-the-art
human simulators (Trauma Man®).
The course remains a basic requirement for all physicians who
have responsibility for the managment of injured patients. The
course is taught in conjunction with the ATCN® program. The
American College of Surgeons designates this educational activity
for a maximum of 19 hours of category 1 CME credit.
