Electrophysiology (EP) Study

During Your EP Study

A nurse will prepare you for the procedure by:

  • Inserting or checking your intravenous (IV) access in order to give fluid and medications.

  • Placing 10 small electrodes (sticky patches) on your chest to view your electrical activity from different locations of your heart.

  • Placing two large "cardioversion/defibrillation patch" over your heart, one on your chest and one on your back.

  • Checking and marking your right and left foot pulses to compare circulation before and after your procedure.

  • Checking and shaving your right and left groin.

  • Thoroughly explaining the procedure and answering questions before the test starts.

  • During the procedure, family members should wait in the Lab, which is located on the ground floor of Strong Memorial Hospital. The physician will call them to provide results after the procedure. If they cannot be in the Lab, please ask them to leave a contact number with the staff.
