Echocardiography
Echocardiography produces a large amount of accurate, detailed diagnostic information in a relatively easy, quick, painless manner.
You may have heard of sonar - locating objects underwater by
bouncing sound waves off them - and ultrasound exams of pregnant
women to produce images of babies before birth.
Echocardiography uses essentially the same technology to bounce
sound waves off the heart's chambers and valves, creating still
and moving images of the heart.
Echocardiography Lab
Located in the Paul N. Yu Heart Center on the ground floor of Strong Memorial Hospital, our echocardiography laboratory offers a full range of echocardiography tests and services, using the latest equipment and techniques - and the best people.

Our Echocardiologists
One of our three attending echocardiologists is on hand throughout each procedure. Our staff also includes seven sonographers, and specially-trained technologists and nurses.
At most labs, the attending reads the results of the test at the end of the day, after the patient has left. Our doctors read the report in the patient's presence, consult with the technician (sonographer), and get more images if needed.
Mobile Echocardiography Services
We also oversee an active mobile echocardiography service, traveling to several outlying areas to provide echocardiography services where this technology is not yet available.
