Toshio Akiyama, M.D.

Dr. Toshio Akiyama is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Heart Station at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. As a member of the Cardiology Clinical Group at Strong Memorial Hospital, Dr. Akiyama specializes in treating patients with arrhythmias, and the use of pacemakers and defibrillators.

Dr. Akiyama received his medical degree from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan. He completed his residency in Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital. His First Year as a Clinical Cardiology Fellow was at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia (Supervisor: J. W. Hurst) July 1971-June 1972. He has also completed fellowships in Cardiology at both the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Chicago. Dr. Akiyama is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Akiyama has participated in multiple National Institutes of Health studies and his research has been published in numerous medical journals in the US, Britain, and Japan.
