Andrew J. Kirch Developmental Services Center

What Will Happen During The Intake Interview?

The telephone interview generally takes 15-20 minutes. During the interview, the Intake Coordinator will ask you to identify your concerns about your child and what you hope to gain from an evaluation. You will be asked information about your child’s past medical and developmental history, results of previous evaluations and any current services your child is receiving. If you have concerns regarding a particular type of problem or diagnosis, this is the time to share that information.

Based upon this interview, the Intake Coordinator will determine the type of evaluation that is needed and the appointment will be scheduled (pending any necessary insurance referrals). For example, some children need evaluation by a team with expertise in physical disabilities, while other children may need evaluation utilizing specific tests for Autism or other disorders.  If after the interview, the Intake Coordinator feels that your child will be best served by a provider who is not part of our division, you will be given specific information on providers who may be able to meet your child’s needs.
