Children's Endocrine Center

At the Children’s Endocrine Center, we provide care for children and adolescents with disorders of the endocrine system, including:

  • disorders involving the pituitary, thyroid, and/or adrenal glands
  • growth disorders
  • sexual development disorders.
Our experienced team includes three board-certified pediatric endocrinologists, as well as a support staff of nurse practitioners, a social worker, and a Child Psychology fellow. In addition to diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders, we help children by giving them the tools they need to manage their condition. Our team of providers works hard to provide optimal physical, psychosocial, and emotional growth and development of our patients.

Evaluation for an Endocrine Disorder

The endocrine system is an intricate collection of hormone producing glands scattered throughout the body. Endocrine disorders can display a wide variety of symptoms. If your child is referred to the Endocrine Center, his/her evaluation will depend upon the reason for the referral. An evaluation typically includes:

  • Measurement of weight, height, blood pressure and pulse;
  • Assessment of your child's medical and surgical history, including current and past medications ;
  • Assessment of your family's medical history, including questions regarding the growth and sexual development of parents and siblings;
  • Physical exam that may include eyes, ears, neck, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen and genitalia;
  • Blood work;
  • Imaging tests, such as x-ray or MRI.
