Regional Early Childhood Direction Center (RECDC)

Did You Know…

The Early Childhood Direction Center is a joint project between Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, SCDD and Monroe BOCES #1. It serves an eleven county region including: Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates, Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung.

The Regional Early Childhood Direction Center (RECDC) is a project sponsored by Monroe #1 BOCES, the University of Rochester's Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong and Neonatology.  RECDC provides FREE information, referral assistance and support to families and professionals.

RECDC is a grant-funded program by the New York State Education Department and the Office of Vocational and Educational Supports for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID).  RECDC has been in existence since 1979 and began as a clearinghouse of information about children birth to 5 years.

Our partnership with the Neonatal Continuing Care Program (NCCP) consists of two components: a tracking program and a follow up clinic with the Neonatal Continuing Care Clinic.  The NCCP provides assistance to families in accessing services for children with developmental delays.  Follow up data on all Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) graduates helps to inform research and future studies.

RECDC continues to support families and professionals by:

  • Helping to identify children with disabilities or those at risk as early as possible – “Child Find” (IDEA).
  • Providing information and assistance (locate services) to parents, professionals and the community on services for children birth to five in the eleven counties surrounding Rochester. (Chemung, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates).
  • Offering training and technical assistance on key early childhood issues in the region
  • Promote services to be delivered to children in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
