Kirch Developmental Services Center
Kirch Developmental Services Center, a program of the division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics provides a variety of services to children with developmental disabilities and delays, including:
Diagnostic Evaluations for children suspected of having a developmental disability are provided in order to identify the possible causes of developmental delays and assist families in understanding their child’s behavior and development. Evaluations may be provided by a Developmental Pediatrician, Clinical Psychologist, or Pediatric Nurse Practioner. Recommendations may help the family, primary care provider and educational system in implementing interventions.
Specialty Health Care and Consultation for children with complex developmental disabilities.
Developmental Pediatricians, Pediatric Nurse Practioners and Pediatric social Workers provide ongoing care that addresses health and behavioral issues related to a child's developmental disability.
Physical Disabilities Program provides multidisciplinary specialty health care provided to children with complex physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida. The team provides evaluation and monitoring of health and behavioral issues that may be associated with a child's disability. Recommendations are made with the goal of optimizing health, independence, community participation and quality of life.
Spasticity Evaluation and Treatment for children with disorders of muscle movement related to disorders such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury.
Early Intervention Core Evaluations for children suspected of having a developmental delay. This evaluation quantifies the degree of delay in 5 areas of development and determines eligibility for Early Intervention Services. Our team has particular expertise in evaluating children with complex health care needs.
Early Intervention Supplemental Evaluations are performed at the request of the Early Intervention Program. Supplemental evaluations are for children already receiving Early Intervention Services who are in need of additional diagnostic or functional evaluation by a Developmental Pediatrician, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Pathologist, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Audiologist or Psychologist.
Educational Testing to identify specific disorders of learning such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Aspergers Syndrome and to identify strengths and weaknesses of children with developmental disabilities .Recommendations can be made to make learning more achievable. Teaching strategies are shared to foster the school team’s ability to work with children with developmental disabilities and to include them in the least restrictive educational environment.
Psychological Testing is provided to children with suspected developmental disabilities as part of the diagnostic process. Clinical Psychologists administer standardized tests to evaluate social language, cognitive and adaptive skills.
Prenatal Consultations for families who have received a diagnosis of developmental difference prior to the birth of a child.
