Important Information for Physicians
PCP – Developmental Pediatrics Phone Consultation Service
In an effort to support the high quality, active role Primary Care Providers in the Rochester community take in the care of their pediatric patients with developmental disabilities, the Kirch Center will be offering a new opportunity for Primary Care Providers to enhance their skills and expertise in the care of these children. Starting July 10, Primary Care Physicians will be able to access Developmental Pediatricians and Nurse Practitioners easily and directly for teaching consultation. While not a system of direct advice about the management of specific patients, this service can provide Primary Care Providers with information and resources that will arm them with the knowledge to make appropriate decisions and planning regarding the care of these challenging patients.
Types of Information that may be provided:
- Strategies for screening/evaluating development
- Strategies for management of challenging behaviors
- Community resources
- Standards for management of disability-related medical/behavioral issues
- Strategies for working with schools and other systems
- Evidence-based information about use of medications in children with disabilities

- Assessment and monitoring protocols
- Standards of Care
- Treatment information
- Community resources and how to access them
