Hospital Guide

Daily Routine

Guidelines to keep in mind as you organize your child's day:

  • Vital signs are taken throughout the day and night as ordered by your physician.
  • Most blood draws are performed between 5: 00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., so that results can be back in time for your physician to plan your care for the day.
  • Patients are encouraged to begin their day at breakfast time.
  • School work can be done anytime during the day. You may do work in your own room, the recreation room or the school room.
  • Lunch arrives between 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily.
  • Snacks are available throughout the day.
  • All patients need to be in their room by 10:00 p.m. to prepare for quiet time/sleep.
  • Lights and TVs need to be off by 11:00 p.m.
  • Consideration of your roommate and other patients on the unit is very important.
  • Patients who are here for extended periods are encouraged to create a schedule. This schedule allows you to help organize care and activities with your nurse and/or child life specialist.
