Specialized Programs - Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic
Successful early intervention has created a growing population of people reaching adulthood with complex structural congenital heart disease. As specialists in congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiologists have the expertise to coordinate a multidisciplinary approach to providing high quality patient care to adults with congenital heart disease. This multidisciplinary approach includes the close involvement of social work, pediatric and adult cardiology, and high-risk obstetrics. Specific issues arising in adults with congenital heart disease include heart failure, pregnancy, coronary artery disease and complex heart rhythm disorders.
Specialists in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program work with primary care physicians and primary cardiologists as consultants, care coordinators or as primary cardiologists for adults with congenital heart disease based on the needs of the patient and the referring physician. Cardiovascular problems occur in this population that require members of our team who are experts in interventional cardiac catheterization for congenital heart disease and for congenital heart surgery.
Our ability to maintain normal quality and length of life is continually improving. Our goal is to offer state of the art care throughout the lives of this population.
