The program is dedicated to maintaining patient health by providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services and by emphasizing preventive strategies. Emotional support and counseling, home visits, advocacy in schools, and assistance with financial concerns ensure improved communication and access to care.
Family education regarding sickle cell disease is a central concern of the program. Anticipatory guidance and teaching are pursued at all visits. The program carefully follows accepted screening and health care maintenance guidelines. Regular appointments, special immunizations and medications, laboratory testing, and specialty service evaluations are aimed at preventing chronic organ damage.
