Patient Care and Family Services
Mildred Levine Pediatric Surgical Suite
In the Pediatric Surgical Suite we work hard to create an environment and atmosphere that will provide comfort for any child who needs surgery. Our waiting room is "child friendly" and is designed to ease anxiety by offering activities to entertain children while they wait before surgery. To help ease fears, children can watch TV or even their favorite movie, which often enables them to remain calm before surgery.
Parents are Key
Your role as a parent or guardian is vital in the caring and healing of your child and we welcome and encourage parents to remain with their child in the pre-anesthesia area and in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) after surgery is complete.
In order to maintain a comfortable environment for all families in the waiting room, we ask that you please consider these things:
- Avoid eating or drinking in the waiting room when possible to be sensitive to the needs of other children, as many children waiting are not permitted to eat before surgery.
- Limiting the number of family members in the waiting room (we recommend two per child), as our experience is is that too many visitors can be overwhelming for your child. Extended family members may wait in the Family Waiting Room, near the main lobby on the first floor of the hospital.
- Arranging alternate care for siblings and younger children, so you can stay with your child before and after surgery to help ensure the best care of your child.
