Geriatric Fracture Center

Faster Admissions Mean
Better Outcomes for Patients

Did You Know…

"For an older person with a fracture, any delay to surgery for non-medical reasons may be detrimental to the patient's outcome.

-Dr. Stephen Kates

We know from our extensive experience in treating older patients that rapid evaluation and treatment of fractures results in better outcomes with fewer complications. Medical research confirms this.

That's why we've developed a unique protocols that dramatically decreases the time it takes for patients to receive treatment. Under these protocols:

  • Many patients from partner nursing homes and assisted living facilities can bypass the emergency department and be admitted directly to the Geriatric Fracture Center.

  • Patients brought in to our emergency department receive priority evaluation and are fast-tracked through the emergency department to ensure that they receive treatment without delay.

  • Patients are rapidly seen and evaluated by both orthopaedic and Geriatric Medicine specialists (or their primary care doctor) and prepared for surgical repair of the broken bone.
