Information for Referring Physicians
Muscle and Nerve Tissue Processing
Muscle and nerve biopsies are processed in our dedicated, high-tech laboratory. While we prefer to perform biopsies at our lab, we regularly process muscle and nerve specimens obtained from other hospitals as well.
To ensure the best diagnostic results, physicians wishing to send muscle specimens should:

Contact our laboratory at (585) 275-1330 before you perform the biopsy to obtain instructions about handling and transporting the specimen

Be sure that the fresh (unfixed) specimen can be sent to us within three hours of the biopsy
Biopsy Reports
Whether the biopsy is performed at our location or at another facility, the tissue is processed immediately. A preliminary biopsy report is communicated to the referring physician within 24 hours. A final muscle biopsy report is sent within a week; while a nerve biopsy report takes ten days. For more information or to refer a patient, call 585-275-6372.
