Outcomes of Palliative Care Consultation
Ongoing performance improvement initiatives are
underway at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Program
initiatives include examining:

Improvements in palliative care, pain, and symptom management
in hospitalized patients
- Effects of palliative consultation on patient and family satisfaction
- Effects of palliative consultation on subsequent medical decision-making
Pilot Study Examining the Effect of Early Palliative Care Intervention
in the Intensive Care Unit
This performance
improvement project, in cooperation
with the National Institute for
Health Care Improvement Palliative
Care
Initiative,
is examining
the effect of proactive palliative care interventions
on high-risk patients in the Intensive Care Unit. Outcome measures
include selected patient, family, staff, and hospital measures of
high-quality patient care.
Research
Family Follow-up Survey
This project, in cooperation with the Office of
Clinical Practice Evaluation, is eliciting the perspectives of
family members
on the quality of care their loved one received near the end
of
life.
Educational Initiatives
Educational Research
This study examines how our trainees, who have been systematically
trained in palliative and end-of-life care, differ
from trainees at other Universities.
