The Emergency Medicine/Critical Care residency at the University
of Rochester Medical Center is a 12-month, full-time curriculum that provides
the essential elements needed to mold a successful pharmacy specialist.
This intensive training involves activities in a wide variety
of practice settings, including:
After completing this residency, the pharmacist will have gained
the experience needed to become confident and skilled in evaluating
drug-related issues. The pharmacist will be a competent practitioner
of patient care in critical care and emergency medicine environments.
Accreditation
The Emergency Medicine/Critical Care Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Its goals, objectives, and evaluation procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives established by ASHP.

Elective Rotations
Possible electives include:
Residents will also have opportunities to develop teaching skills
by providing in-service presentations, to pharmacy staff and
didactic lectures to students in other health care professions,
such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Development of a major project related to a specific aspect
of emergency medicine or critical care is required, and the results
are to be presented at the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy
Residents and Preceptors. A minor project is also to be prepared
and presented at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
Employment Information
Benefits
The estimated one-year stipend is $39,500. Additional
benefits include health insurance, sick leave, paid holidays,
book
allowance and travel reimbursement for 2-3 professional
meetings.
Requirements For Admission
Admission to the residency program is available
to Pharm.D. graduates who have completed a pharmacy practice
residency.
Residents must be eligible for New
York State licensure.
