The Highland Hospital Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Center is dedicated to helping our patients achieve the highest level of independence and enable them to return to the community. The center staff provides professional-quality inpatient services with compassion and empathy. Our department assists patients and their families by offering educational materials, support services, and discharge planning.

Physical Therapy
Highland Hospital offers inpatient physical therapy services. Highland physical therapists provide consultations, evaluations, and a variety of treatment services, including:
- Orthopedic injuries
- Whirlpool/wound care
- Low back/neck pain (McKenzie Approach)
- Lymphedema (LeDuc method)
- Ergonomic/work-related injuries
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Therapeutic exercises
- Pain management
- Balance activities
- Bed mobility, transfer training, manual therapy, and gait training
If you are in need of outpatient care, the Strong Rehabilitation Center at Clinton Crossings provides a variety of outpatient physical therapy services.
Occupational Therapy
Whether you need to improve your muscle function, your ability to remain independent, or your sense of well-being, our occupational therapists, Michelle Bruegger, OTR/L, and Michelle DeRue, OTR/L, work with inpatients at Highland Hospital to help prepare them for their daily routines at home and at work.
We provide consultations, evaluations, and treatment in activities of daily living, such as:
- Bathing, grooming, dressing, and homemaking
- Adaptive equipment training for independence following joint reconstruction
- Upper extremity and hand function
- Splinting
- Positioning and other treatments requiring occupational therapy
Speech-Language Pathology
Our speech-language pathologists, Molly DeWeese and Agata T. Mevs, provide treatment for inpatients at Highland Hospital requiring diagnostic and therapy services. We offer speech therapy for individuals with:
- Speech impairment as a result of stroke, dementia, Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis
- Speaking and listening, or cognitive and memory problems following head injury
- Voice disorders resulting from disease or misuse of the voice
- Speech disorders
- Swallowing disorders (dyshagia)
- Developmental delays
