Patient Rights and Responsibilities
Right: To receive considerate and respectful care
Responsibility: To treat other patients and staff with courtesy:
- Speak to others with courtesy and respect
- Respect other people's privacy
- Observe smoking regulations
- Use televisions, telephones, radio and lights in a manner that's not disturbing to others
Right: To receive complete information about diagnosis, treatment and prognosis
Responsibility: To make your needs known
Right: To participate in all decisions about your treatment and discharge
Responsibility: To be knowledgeable about your medical plan of care
Right: To refuse treatment and be told what the effect will be
Responsibility: To ask questions if you do not fully understand information given to you
Right: To receive considerate and respectful care
Responsibility: To keep appointments on time, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. If you are going to be absent, please notify the appropriate persons in a timely manner
Right: To know the names, positions, and function of all hospital staff involved with your care
Responsibility: To speak to the staff who will assist you to correct or remedy a situation—the nurse, the social worker, the therapist, or someone else on the unit
