Aging Successfully

Positive Attitudes Lead to a Robust Maturity

"Age has its pleasures, which, though different, are not less than the pleasures of youth."
–W. Somerset Maugham.

Couple with positive attitude laughing.Unfortunately, few societies seem to understand the wisdom of Maugham's statement. And few seem able to balance the needs of the younger with the needs of the older. Some cultures allow the young to be tyrannized by their elders. Our culture, on the contrary, over-values youth. People are afraid to "admit" their age because they fear being considered irrelevant and treated with condescension. Even that word "admit" suggests getting older is a crime!

At Strong Health, we understand that the prejudice against aging can make it hard to stay positive about it. We've developed a full menu of services to help you meet that challenge, ranging from assessments, primary care, and future health to the latest word in geriatric research.

Maintaining Positive Attitudes

  • Assessments–Attitudes improve when you understand fully your physical and mental strengths and weaknesses. Health Assessment services at Strong Health help seniors and their families face specific medical challenges positively.
  • Primary care–Attitudes improve when you have confidence in your caregivers. For primary care, our Strong Health physicians and other health care professionals are all members of the faculty of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and are recognized around the world for geriatric expertise. (Geriatrics is the branch of medicine that specializes in the physical health of adults 55 years of age and older.)
  • Specialty centers–Attitudes improve when you face medical conditions intelligently. We offer more than 30 medical and surgical specialty clinics dedicated to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and more to help you manage your physical health.
  • Wellness–Attitudes improve when you exercise safely. The Center for Lifetime Wellness provides assessments, health screening, and exercise classes to help you stay active and fit.
  • Hospital stays–Attitudes improve when you lose your fear of hospital stays. Strong Health has an Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit at Highland Hospital to return seniors to feeling their best. We also provide specialized geriatric care at Strong Memorial Hospital.
  • Home Care–Attitudes improve when you recuperate at home. By using the Visiting Nurse Service, you can have quality care, therapy, nutrition, socialization and more delivered right to your home.
  • Senior living options–Attitudes improve when you live in a community that's right for you. Strong Health has developed several living options for seniors offering different levels of health care.
