A Unique, Seniors-Only Hospital Unit

All hospitalizations affect the patient and their loved ones. When the patient is a senior, the affect can be even stronger. Strong Health understands the special requirements of mature patients and the people who care about them. That's why we set up Acute Care for Elders (ACE) unit at Highland Hospital, 1000 South Avenue, West Wing 6, Rochester, N.Y.

Introducing Acute Care for Elders (ACE)

ACE unit is a "seniors only" unit in Highland Hospital, and the only place of its kind in the Rochester community. The ACE unit emphasizes open, honest communication between the senior, family members, and the care team. ACE's goal is to make the hospital stay as pleasant and relaxed as possible, while meeting each person's individual needs.

What's It Like?

• Teams of doctors, nurses, social workers, and other health care providers are all "team-trained" to work effectively with senior patients
• A nutritionist provides for special dietary needs
• Rehabilitation services (physical, occupational, speech and language therapy) help to quickly restore every day routines
• Pain management services offered as needed for wound, ostomy, skin care, medication, and end-of-life issues
• Health care services and financial resources available to seniors are shared with family members
• Language interpreters are on-call as needed
