Visiting Nurse Service (VNS)
|
|
For many seniors, living at home is the best option for financial, emotional and health reasons. The Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) was developed in Monroe County in 1919 to help seniors stay in their own home, even when they become ill or disabled.
In-Home Care, 24/ 7
VNS is a full service, not-for-profit, Medicare certified home health agency, and a leader in home health care. Strong Health has chosen VNS to be the home health care agency of choice because of its superior quality of care.
VNS supports people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, and in all conditions, from those needing a little help to the acutely ill. We even offer end-of-life support and hospice care.
VNS caregivers are assigned to work with your physician to support your recovery at home with certified home health care. With 11,000 patients annually and 600,000 home visits, VNS is staffed to handle all medical conditions, right in your home. And VNS services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Services Support Recovery
Thousands of people have benefited from VNS programs and services, which include:
- Long Term Home Health Care. A positive alternative to nursing homes for the disabled and/or chronically ill. We like to call it a "Nursing Home Without Walls." Our advanced practice nurses bring their skills into your home .
- One Caring Place. At One Caring Place, guests receive room, board, and certified care. This sub-acute home is a temporary substitute until the person can return to their own residence.
- Meals on Wheels. More than 2,000 volunteers deliver over 370,000 meals annually. Recovery is quicker when good nutrition is within reach. Meals on Wheels can match dietary restrictions (including Kosher meals), with hot and cold food delivered right to your door.
- Nutrition education. Good food can benefit your health measurably. VNS offers expert advice for healthier eating.
- Personal alarms. Electronic call buttons quickly signals whenever you need immediate help.
- Home Health Assistants. Bathing, exercise, meals, medicine and light housekeeping are easier with an assistant.
- Companions. Sometimes the best help is simply someone to keep you company and help organize your life.
- Volunteer Support. We have a community of more than 2,000 caring volunteers who contribute more than 93,000 hours to VNS. Volunteers help with tasks and offer encouragement and hope.
- Housekeeping. Extensive cleaning on a regular basis helps you concentrate on getting well.
