Aging Successfully

Nutrition and The Visiting Nurse Service

Meals on Wheels has been serving the nutritional needs of frail elderly and homebound residents in our community since 1958. Each year the program, under the direction of the Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe County in collaboration with the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross, serves more than 330,000 meals to area residents.

Nutrition at the Center for Lifetime Wellness

How can we improve our health as we age? Read any book about aging successfully and diet and exercise tops every list. At The Center for Lifetime Wellness, located at Monroe Community Hospital, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, N. Y. we've developed comprehensive programs to address both diet and exercise. On this page we talk about diet and nutrition.

Tired of watching your weight go from unacceptable to totally unacceptable? Our nutrition programs offer real help. Here are just five examples of how Center for Lifetime Wellness nutrition programs can help you get healthier while you enjoy eating good food.

  • The Image Method: A Weight Management Program to Move You From Imagination to Achievement. This weight management program takes one hour a week for 12 consecutive weeks. It covers healthy food selections and meal planning, lifestyle choices (including a winning attitude), goal setting, and exercise. In addition to encouragement and support from weight management specialists, you'll gain the skills to make it happen in your life. The cost is $110.
  • The Daily Fare. This three-month long, one-on-one program takes a holistic approach to weight management and lifestyle. It's based on three important principles: nutrition, exercise and stress management. Clients begin with self-assessment, then work as a team with our nurse educator to develop a winning plan. A follow-up phone call one month after you complete the Daily Fare program helps keep you on track. Total one-on-one time is 6 hours. The cost is $220.
  • The Mini Fare. Designed for weight loss seekers with a shorter attention span, this 6-week long, one-on-one program focuses on nutrition only. Total one-on-one time is 4 hours. The cost is $150.
  • The Fare Club. Share successes and lament setbacks with other goal seekers. Designed for alumni of the Daily Fare, the Mini Fare, and the Image Method, the Fare Club explores a different topic each month in a group setting. Total group time is 1 hour. The cost is $12.
  • The Single/Double Consultation. Choose one or two on-on-one consultations with the area's leading weight management specialists. You pick the topic of interest, such as cancer recovery foods, heart-healthy cooking, and creative meal planning when you live alone. Total one-on-one time is 1 1/2 hours. The cost is $50 for a single and $85 for a double consultation.
