Causes of Aphasia

Aphasia is not a disease. It’s a symptom of brain damage (usually to the language-dominant left side of the brain) that may result from a range of circumstances, including:

  • Stroke
  • Head injury
  • Brain tumor
  • Infection in the brain
  • Alzheimer’s Disease or another form of dementia
