Accent Modification for Staff, Physicians, and International Students

Strong Memorial Hospital offers accent modification to staff, physicians, and international students to help them improve overall speech intelligibility. This program will provide an initial interview and a detailed speech analysis. Based on this analysis, a specialized set of practice materials will be developed which takes into account the person’s specific speech pattern, interference with the native language, and any personal and professional needs he or she may have.

All courses are taught by speech pathologists who are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and have been trained to offer the program through the Institute of Language and Phonology. In this program, the one-to-one instruction is designed especially for the person’s particular needs and goals. This program consists of 13 one-hour speech therapy sessions after the initial evaluation. Each person is encouraged to practice one hour daily to achieve the most success.

The initial evaluation fee is $228, and all therapy sessions are $78 per hour. This program is well worth it and those people who have previously taken this instruction have observed improved communication skills and feel better prepared for working in their desired environment.
