Cardiac Rehabilitation
What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program that includes exercise, education, and counseling which enables a person with heart disease to return to a full and productive life. Nearly everyone can benefit from cardiac rehab. No one is too old or too young.
Cardiac Rehabilitation is a safe and practical way to:
- Feel better faster
- Regain/gain strength
- Reduce stress
- Control blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight
- Quit smoking
- Reduce the risk of future heart problems
- Return to work and/or everyday activities sooner
Phase I
This phase begins in the hospital following either:
- A heart attack
- Angioplasty
- Heart surgery
- Angina
Phase II
This 12-week outpatient program may begin shortly after discharge from the hospital. It combines educational classes with a closely monitored exercise program. Strong emphasis is placed on helping you to achieve a "heart healthy" lifestyle. This is an important part of your recovery process because it enables you to exercise safely, ask questions and achieve your optimal activity level in a medically supervised setting. Our experienced staff includes registered nurses, exercise specialists, diabetes educators, nurse practitioners, physicians, and a dietician. Together with you, we will develop an individualized program to meet your needs and help you to work towards your goal of a healthier lifestyle.
