A graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Hendren completed her residency and research fellowship in surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, she also completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Toronto—one of the world’s top centers for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and familial colorectal cancer syndromes. Dr. Hendren's research on quality-of-life issues after rectal cancer surgery has been published in the Annals of Surgery. She also works to actively educate the community about colorectal cancer treatment, screening and surveillance, and about the surgical treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Dr. Hendren specializes in the surgical treatment of colon cancer, rectal cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and other disorders of the small intestine, large intestine (colon), rectum, and anus. She uses open surgery, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, and lower bowel endoscopic (scope) procedures as needed to treat each individual patient’s particular colorectal condition. Dr. Hendren is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. SpecialtiesEducation and Training
