Retrorectal Tumors

What are Retrorectal Tumors?

Retrorectal tumors are uncommon lesions of the rectum, such as the benign tailgut cyst. Malignant growths found here are normally solid in nature and have traveled from bone and nerve cells.

Symptoms of Retrorectal Tumors

Symptoms vary and might not be obvious in the early stages of tumor growth. They include:

  • Lower back pain
  • Urinary and/or bowel dysfunction
  • Pain on defecation
  • Rectal bleeding

Treatment for Retrorectal Tumors

Whether solid or cystic, tumors should be removed surgically to preclude a possible change to malignancy.
