What is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist?
If your child needs surgical or medical treatment for
disorders affecting the ear, nose, throat, head or neck, a pediatric
otolaryngologist (ENT physician) is qualified to treat
your child. Pediatric ENT physicians treat newborns to young adolescents.
Many general otolaryngologists also provide surgical care for children.
Training Required to Be a Pediatric Otolaryngologist
- 4 years of medical school
- One year of a surgical internship
- 1 additional year of residency training in general surgery
- At least 3 to 4 additional years of residency training in
otolaryngology and head and neck surgery
- Pediatric ENT physicians
often complete additional training in fellowship programs at
a large children’s medical center
