Treatment of Interstitial Cystitis

Exercises and stress-reduction techniques

Some people find relief from stretching and other exercises, such as pelvic floor muscle exercises (also known as Kegel exercises). These exercises consist of alternately contracting (squeezing) and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles. To be sure you’re working with the right muscles, you should be trained by a health care professional. But you can try it by squeezing the muscles you would use to stop yourself from passing gas. Try not to squeeze other muscles, such as those in your stomach, leg, or buttocks, at the same time.
