Vaginal Dryness
Another result of loss of estrogen that you may experience is vaginal dryness. This can cause intercourse to be very painful, and can also cause a burning or itching sensation, irritation, and an increased risk of infection. But there are things you and your doctor can do to ease this discomfort and help you to maintain a healthy sex life.
During intercourse, use the help of an over-the-counter water-based lubricant. These act in the place of vaginal lubrication and can make intercourse more comfortable. You can also talk to your doctor about a prescription estrogen vaginal cream. These improve lubrication and help the vaginal walls to maintain elasticity. Do try to maintain regular sexual activity. Regular activity actually helps to maintain vaginal health by improving blood flow to the vagina and maintaining the elasticity of the vaginal walls.
