Additional Resources

There are a variety of resources available for breastfeeding assistance and support. Our hospital lactation consultants are available to assist you throughout your breastfeeding experience with your baby. You can also explore the following areas for additional support.

  • Private LCs
Lactation consultants or counselors, some board certified, are available on a fee-for-service basis. Check your local yellow pages under "lactation" or "breastfeeding". Your hospital lactation consultant may also be able to provide you with information or assist you through an outpatient visit at the hospital.
  • La Leche* League (*pronounced “lay-chay”)
A world wide women’s support group dedicated to providing education, information, support and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. Some Leaders in the organization will provide home visits for assistance and/or rent or sell breastpumps and equipment. Call (585)-275-5151 for a referral to a Leader nearest you or visit their website at www.lalecheleague.org
  • WIC (Women, Infant and Children program)
Nutritional support program for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and infants and children up to 5 years of age. They provide food vouchers, nutrition education and access to other health and human services needed. For more information call (585) 464-6481.
