How to Choose A Pump
Once you have decided on a plan for breastfeeding when you return
to work, choosing a pump will be easier. If you will be breastfeeding
exclusively with your baby being brought to you or will wean
partially or completely before your return to work, you may not
need a breastpump at all. If you desire, a manual pump would
be sufficient for some occasional pumping to relieve discomfort
you may experience from delaying or skipping feedings.
If you will be providing breastmilk exclusively for your baby you will find it easier to have an electric breastpump. Single electric breast pumps will be adequate for once a day pumping or parttime pumping a few days a week. If you will be working fulltime, a double electric breast pump will make it faster to express breastmilk and will help you maintain your milk supply longer. Call your lactation consultant for more guidance with your individual circumstances.
