Lactation Programs at Work
More employers are realizing the critical role women play in the workforce and are providing support to make it easier for them to return to their job and continue to breastfeed. Some companies even have special lactation programs to support breastfeeding mothers, providing breastpumps and/or pumping rooms, breastfeeding education and counseling, while other companies allow women the time to go and pump or feed their baby during their work day.
Talk with your employer before your baby is born about your plans to return to work and continue breastfeeding your baby. You and your employer may decide on an alternative work schedule or may be able to help with creating a breastfeeding support program.
Consider attending a special class for breastfeeding mothers returning to work. This class will help you explore your options and prepare a plan for you and your baby that is flexible as your needs change. Call 473-2229 for more information.
