Preparing for Your Baby's Birth

Preparing for you the arrival of your new baby can seem overwhelming at times, so we have created a checklist to help remember all the important things you need to do before you have your baby.

Planning Checklist

  • Choose a support person
    Choose your husband, partner, a friend or a family member to be with you during labor and delivery. Include your support person in your pregnancy by having him or her meet your health care provider before labor and delivery.
  • Pre-register at the hospital
    For questions about registration at Strong Memorial Hospital call the Admitting Office at 585-275-3400 and at highland Hospital call (need number for the admitting office).
  • Plan for transportation
    A trial drive to the hospital will give you an idea of how long the trip will take, where you should park, and what entrance you should use.
  • Arrange for child care
    Arrange for care if you have other children. you may need to have one plan for daytime hours and one for the night.
  • Know your care provider's telephone number
    Make sure you have your provider's number written down, both the office number and the after hours number
  • Know what to bring to the hospital
    Some things you'll want to have are:
    • toiletries
    • robes, nightgowns, slippers, nursing bra,
    • book or magazines
    • clothes for you and your baby to wear home
    • music or other items that may help you to relax
    • camera and batteries, snacks
    • pillows
