Rest and Relaxation

Although it may seem impossible, it is very important for you to get as much rest as possible in the first few weeks following your baby's birth. Although it is impossible to avoid those middle-of the-night feedings, here are a few tips to help you find the rest you need:

  • Take naps when your baby naps;
  • Ask friends and relatives to help with housework and/or care of other children;
  • If bottle feeding, have your partner or other adult in the home to give the baby one of the nighttime feedings;
  • Fatigue can be a result of anemia - continue to take your prenatal vitamins or an iron supplement;
  • If you do not have a network of family or friends to help out, consider hiring extra household help - a housekeeper, babysitter or mother's helper;
  • Eat healthy, balanced meals, and do not skip meals;
  • Regular exercise will help you to relax and to sleep better.
