Hormone Testing in Miami, FL: Get Numbers, Not Guesses

Fatigue, low libido, stubborn weight, broken sleep, and mood that swings for no reason all get filed under "getting older." A comprehensive hormone panel at our Brickell clinic replaces that shrug with measured levels — drawn at the right time of day and the right point in your cycle, then read by a physician who explains what they mean.

The Panel

What a full hormone panel measures

"Hormones" is not one system. The panel is built in layers: a core set everyone runs, plus the sex-hormone markers specific to you. Most of the symptoms people arrive with — the fatigue, the weight, the sleep — trace back to the core layer at least as often as to testosterone or estrogen.

Here is what each marker is actually telling you.

Core panel

Run for everyone, because these are the systems most often behind symptoms that get blamed on hormones.

Core panel markers and what they indicate
Marker What it controls Why it's on the panel
TSH, free T4 Thyroid output — metabolism, temperature, energy Fatigue, weight change, hair thinning, feeling cold
Cortisol Stress response and daily energy rhythm Wired-and-tired evenings, poor sleep, belly-weight gain
DHEA-S Adrenal precursor to sex hormones Low drive and low resilience alongside normal thyroid
Fasting insulin & glucose How well your body handles carbohydrate Weight that won't move despite a real calorie deficit
Vitamin D Hormone-like regulator of bone, mood, and immunity Common to be low even in Miami, because of indoor hours

Male hormone panel

Added for men. Total testosterone alone is a famously incomplete picture, which is why free testosterone and SHBG are drawn with it.

Male hormone panel markers and what they indicate
Marker What it controls Why it's on the panel
Total testosterone All circulating testosterone, bound and unbound The headline number — but only meaningful drawn in the morning
Free testosterone The fraction actually available to your tissues Can be low while total testosterone reads normal
SHBG The protein that binds testosterone up High SHBG explains the normal-total / low-free mismatch
Estradiol Testosterone converted by aromatase Matters for mood, libido, and body fat in men too
LH & FSH The pituitary signals that tell testes to produce Separates a testicular cause from a pituitary one
PSA Prostate marker Baseline before any testosterone-related treatment, age-dependent

Female hormone panel

Added for women. Timing is the whole game here — the same blood drawn on the wrong cycle day tells you almost nothing.

Female hormone panel markers and what they indicate
Marker What it controls Why it's on the panel
Estradiol Primary estrogen — cycle, bone, mood, skin Drawn early-cycle for a baseline, or any day post-menopause
Progesterone Second-half-of-cycle hormone Drawn ~7 days after ovulation to confirm you ovulated
LH & FSH Pituitary signals driving the cycle Early-cycle draw; the standard read on menopausal transition
Testosterone & SHBG Drive, muscle, and energy in women too Often overlooked entirely in a standard physical
Prolactin Pituitary hormone that can suppress the cycle Missed periods, unexplained milk production
Thyroid antibodies Autoimmune thyroid activity Added when TSH is abnormal or symptoms outrun the TSH

Your physician confirms the final marker list at your visit. Symptoms drive the panel — there is no reason to run an assay that can't change what you do next.

Why Timing Decides the Result

The same blood, drawn wrong, tells you nothing

This is the part almost every convenience test gets wrong, and it's the single biggest reason people end up with results that contradict how they feel.

For men: testosterone runs on a daily rhythm and peaks in the morning. Drawn at 4 PM, a man with entirely normal levels can read low — and a man who genuinely is low can be told his afternoon number is "borderline" and sent home. We draw between 7 and 10 AM, and we draw free testosterone and SHBG alongside the total, because high SHBG binds testosterone up and produces the classic pattern of a normal total with a free level well under range.

For women: cycle day decides everything. Estradiol, LH, and FSH are drawn early in the cycle for a baseline; progesterone is drawn about seven days after ovulation, because that is the only window where it confirms ovulation happened at all. The same panel drawn on a random Tuesday produces numbers that are technically accurate and practically meaningless. If your cycle is irregular or you're past menopause, we schedule around that instead of pretending a standard window applies.

One more thing worth knowing: biotin, the supplement people take for hair and nails, interferes with several common thyroid and hormone assays and can skew results in either direction. Bring your full supplement list, not just your prescriptions.

Clinic vs. Mail-In Kit

What an at-home kit can't do

At-home hormone kits are genuinely useful for some things, and dismissing them outright would be dishonest. But it's worth being clear about where they stop.

A finger-prick or saliva sample supports fewer assays reliably than a venous draw. The timing of your sample is left entirely to you, which — see above — is where most of the value is won or lost. And the result comes back as a PDF full of reference ranges, with no one to tell you that your number sits inside the range but is wrong for you, or that the marker you're worried about is fine and the one to actually address is three rows down.

Venous draw

Supports the full marker list, including the assays finger-prick volumes can't reliably run.

Timed correctly

Morning window for testosterone, cycle-day scheduling for female panels. Booked that way by default.

CLIA-certified lab

Standardized processing, so your retest in three months is comparable to today's baseline.

A physician reads it

Results reviewed against your symptoms and history, and you leave with a written plan.

Who It's For

Who should get hormone testing

Men with low-T symptoms

Flat energy, low drive, gym numbers sliding backwards. Before anyone talks about treatment, you need morning total and free testosterone with SHBG — that trio is what separates an actual deficiency from a bad night's sleep.

Peptides and testosterone →

Women with cycle or perimenopause changes

Sleep falling apart, mood swings, cycles getting unpredictable in your late 30s or 40s. A panel drawn on the right cycle day tells you where you are in the transition instead of leaving you to guess.

Peptides for women →

Weight that won't move

Before blaming willpower, check thyroid, cortisol, and fasting insulin. Any of the three can hold weight in place through a genuine calorie deficit, and all three are fixable once you can see them.

Pair it with an RMR test →

Optimizers and program patients

If you're starting a physician-supervised protocol, baseline labs are the entry requirement, not an upsell. Retesting is how you and your physician tell whether the protocol is doing what it's supposed to.

Testing is the start, not the sales pitch

A panel can come back clean. That is a useful result, and it means the answer to how you've been feeling is somewhere else — sleep, training load, nutrition, or a metabolic picture an RMR test or DEXA scan reads better. When a panel does show something actionable, Strong Health runs physician-supervised programs from the same Miami clinic, with retesting built into the protocol. Either way, you leave knowing which one you're dealing with.

Your Results

"In range" and "optimal" aren't the same thing

Lab reference ranges are built from the population that got tested, across a wide age span. A number can sit technically inside the range and still be a poor fit for a 34-year-old with your symptoms — and the reverse happens too, where a slightly flagged value turns out to be normal for you and not worth chasing.

That's why the results review is a real appointment rather than an email. Your physician goes marker by marker: what it means, whether it explains the symptom that brought you in, and what would have to change to move it. Where a result is borderline or a single marker contradicts the rest of the panel, the honest answer is often to retest rather than to act — hormones fluctuate, and one draw is a snapshot.

You leave with your full numbers and a written plan, whether that plan is a treatment protocol, a targeted retest, or a change that has nothing to do with hormones at all.

Cost & Prep

Cost and preparation in Miami

Hormone testing at our Brickell clinic is transparent direct-pay — no insurance pre-authorization, no referral. What you pay depends on which panel you run, and bundling with a DEXA scan or RMR test brings the per-test cost down since the fasting requirement overlaps. Call (754) 263-6026 for current pricing.

Preparation is short but it decides the result:

  • Book a morning slot — 7 to 10 AM for anything testosterone-related
  • Fast 8–12 hours beforehand for fasting insulin and glucose (water is fine)
  • Women: tell us your cycle day when you book so we schedule the right window
  • Bring your full medication and supplement list, biotin included
  • Skip alcohol the night before and hard training for 24 hours

Brickell makes the morning fast easy: draw before work, then get breakfast at Brickell City Centre on your way in.

Miami Patient Reviews

Real numbers from real Miami patients

Verified Patient

I'd been told my testosterone was "normal" twice. Strong Health drew it at 8 AM with free T and SHBG, and the free number was well under range. Same blood, right timing, completely different answer.

Two at-home kits, two useless PDFs. Here they asked what day of my cycle it was before booking me, drew progesterone at the right point, and I finally understood what my body was doing.

Baselined everything before starting a supervised protocol. The part that mattered was sitting with a physician who explained which numbers we were actually trying to move and why.

Miami Hormone Testing FAQs

Common questions about hormone testing in Miami

Where can I get hormone testing in Miami?

Strong Health runs comprehensive hormone panels at our Brickell clinic, 1000 Brickell Plaza, Miami, FL 33131. The draw takes about 15 minutes, no referral is needed, and morning appointments are the standard because several hormones have to be drawn early to mean anything. Book by phone or text at (754) 263-6026.

How much does a hormone panel cost in Miami?

We use transparent direct-pay pricing, and what you pay depends on which panel you run — the core panel alone, or the core panel plus the male or female add-ons. Call (754) 263-6026 for current pricing before you book, including bundle pricing when a hormone panel is drawn alongside a DEXA scan or RMR test.

What hormones are included in a full hormone panel?

The core panel covers thyroid (TSH and free T4), cortisol, DHEA-S, fasting insulin and glucose, and vitamin D. The male panel adds total and free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, LH, FSH, and an age-appropriate PSA. The female panel adds estradiol, progesterone, LH, FSH, testosterone with SHBG, and prolactin. Your physician confirms the final list based on your symptoms.

Are at-home hormone test kits as accurate as a blood draw?

They are convenient, and for some markers they are reasonable. The limits are real, though: finger-prick and saliva samples suit fewer assays than a venous draw, the timing of your sample is left entirely to you, and the result arrives as a PDF with reference ranges and no one to interpret it. The draw is the easy part of testing. Knowing which numbers matter for your symptoms is the part worth paying for.

Do I need to fast, and does the time of day matter?

Yes to both, and the timing matters more than people expect. Testosterone follows a daily rhythm and peaks in the morning, so we draw it between 7 and 10 AM — an afternoon draw can read low in a man whose levels are fine. Fasting insulin and glucose need roughly 8–12 hours without food. Water is fine, and we confirm your specific prep when you book.

What are the signs of a hormone imbalance?

The common ones overlap heavily with ordinary life, which is exactly why testing beats guessing: persistent fatigue, low libido, weight that won't move, poor sleep, mood changes, brain fog, hair thinning, and irregular cycles. Any single symptom means very little on its own. A panel tells you whether there is a measurable driver behind the cluster you're experiencing.

How is hormone testing different for men and women?

For men, the variable that matters most is time of day — morning draw, with free testosterone and SHBG alongside the total. For women, it's cycle day. A baseline estradiol, LH, and FSH is drawn early in the cycle, while progesterone is drawn about seven days after ovulation to confirm ovulation happened. If you're post-menopause or your cycle is irregular, we schedule around that instead.

How long do results take, and who explains them?

Your sample goes to a CLIA-certified lab, and we schedule your results review as soon as the panel is back — call the clinic for current turnaround, which varies by which markers you run. The review itself is the point of the visit: a physician walks through what each number means against your symptoms and history, and you leave with a written plan rather than a PDF.

Can I do a hormone panel and an RMR or DEXA test in the same visit?

That combination is a common one, since the fasting requirement overlaps. A hormone panel tells you what your endocrine system is doing, an RMR test measures what you actually burn, and a DEXA scan shows the body composition underneath both. Ask when you book so we can schedule the fasted tests together.

Do I need a doctor's referral or insurance?

No referral is required and we bill direct-pay, so there is no insurance pre-authorization to wait on. Book directly with the Brickell clinic by phone or text at (754) 263-6026, and pick a morning slot so the timing-sensitive markers are drawn when they should be.

Want the metabolic side of the picture too? An RMR test measures what you actually burn at rest. See all Strong Health diagnostics.
