The Neuromuscular Disease Center, at Strong Memorial Hospital, provides diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of adults and children.
Neuromuscular diseases involve conditions of the nerves and muscles, including:
- Acquired or hereditary peripheral neuropathies
- Muscular dystrophies such as:
- Inclusion body myositis (IBM)
- Inflammatory myopathy and other myopathies
- Myasthenia gravis
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease)
- Ataxias
- Periodic paralysis
- Non-dystrophic myotonias
- Neuromuscular disorders
Neuromuscular disease diagnostic procedures include:
- Electrodiagnostic procedures of EMG (electromyography) and nerve conduction
- Neuropathology Lab: muscle biopsies, nerve biopsies, and skin biopsies

The Department of Neurology participates with Excellus Blue Choice, Preferred Care, Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rochester health plans. We accept cash or check only for all applicable co-payments and personal balances due at the time of service. If you must cancel your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. You will be charged a $25.00 fee if you miss an appointment.
