Message From the Director

Welcome to the Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center. I hope that your experiences throughout your treatment and healing are positive and that you will soon join the millions of cancer survivors.

Richard I. Fisher, M.D., Director of the Cancer Center

We recognize that this is a difficult time for you and your family. A cancer diagnosis is frightening, and treatment decisions can be overwhelming. Our physicians, nurses and social workers will help you through this process by providing outstanding care, information and support.

As you are aware, there have been great strides in cancer care as a result of research by physicians and scientists like ours. As one of the original centers established by the National Cancer Institute in 1974, the Cancer Center plays a key role in the development of better treatments to conquer cancer.

Our team is studying techniques to detect disease earlier, to introduce new treatments that are less invasive, and to improve life after cancer. You can be assured that you will benefit from our efforts and there may be opportunities to receive novel therapies and treatments that could improve the treatment of your cancer.

Your care and comfort are top priorities for us, and our staff will be as responsive as possible to your concerns and needs. We welcome your thoughts and comments throughout your treatment with us.
