Robotic Surgery

Surgeons at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester Medical Center are the first in upstate New York to use robotic technology laparoscopically to assist in the operating room. It’s only appropriate that our first instrument for robotic surgery is called da Vinci, because the da Vinci™ Robotic Surgical System elevates the practice of surgery to a breathtaking new level of skill and, yes, art.

The da Vinci™ Robotic Surgical System allows our surgeons to operate with extreme precision and accuracy, and gives our surgeons:

  • 3-D vision
  • 3 arms
  • Arms that don’t tire
  • Hands that don’t tremble
  • Enhanced dexterity

What’s so great about robotic surgery?

The da Vinci™ Robotic Surgical System is great for patients and for surgeons. Robotic surgery gives us even greater vision, dexterity and precision than possible with standard minimally invasive surgery, so we can now use minimally invasive techniques for a wider range of procedures.

Great for patients. Patients can now enjoy the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, including:

  • Surgeon using da Vinci Robotic Surgical SystemReduced bleeding
  • Less pain
  • Fewer complications
  • Smaller risk of internal scarring
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster recovery
