Edna C. Young, Ph.D.

Chief of Speech Pathology


Edna Young is an Associate Professor of Surgery (Otolaryngology) and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical School. Edna received both her undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Tennessee. She completed her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University.


Edna’s areas of special interest include developmental speech and language disorders, Language and Learning Disorders, voice disorders, craniofacial disorders (cleft/lip and palate), and swallowing disorders in adults and children.

Heather E. Coles, M.A.

Speech Language Pathologist


Heather Coles received her graduate degree from SUNY Geneseo. Her special areas of interest include swallowing, voice treatment for Parkinson’s Disease, aphasia (stroke), cognitive-linguistic training, and laryngectomy rehabilitation.

Heather’s speech therapy certifications include Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, Lingraphica (Program for Aphasia), and sEMG.

Katherine M. Maruska

Speech Language Pathologist

Katherine Maruska received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Winnipeg and her master’s degree from Kansas State University. Her special areas of interest include adult dysphagia and pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders.

Katherine has her New York State licensure in Speech-Language Pathology and is certified by the   American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Susan S. McDaniel, M.Ed.

Speech Language Pathologist

Susan McDaniel received her bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and her master’s of education from the University of Georgia. Currently, she serves as an adjunct instructor at Nazareth College.

Susan’s special areas of interest include dysphagia in adults and infants/children and patients with tracheostomy and ventilator dependence. She is certified in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation and is working toward a certification in fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing.


Her hobbies outside of work include spending time with her family, reading and quilting.

Linda Manuszak, M.Ed.

Senior Speech-Language Pathologist

Linda Manuszak earned her M.Ed. from Nazareth College and has been with Strong Hospital since 1974.  She has a wide range of experience with both inpatients and outpatients of all ages involving diagnostic testing as well as therapeutic intervention.

In her spare time, Linda enjoys cooking, reading and traveling.

Heather Pyke, M.A., CCC/SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

Heather Pyke received both her undergraduate and her Master’s degree from SUNY Geneseo. Her areas of specialty include adult dysphagia (swallowing disorders), aphasia, and tracheotomy/ventilator dependence.

Kelly Julian, M.A.

Clincian Fellow in Speech – Language Pathology

Kelly completed both her undergraduate and her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from SUNY Geneseo. Her special areas of interest include dysphagia in adults and children, aphasia and pediatric language disorders.

Kelly is a certified New York State Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped and is a Clinical Fellow of the Provisional American Speech – Language Hearing Association.

Molly Clune DeWeese, M.S. CCC/SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

Molly DeWeese received her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and her Masters degree from Syracuse University.  She currently serves as a Speech Language Pathologist and Supervisor at Highland Hospital.

Molly’s special areas of interest include treating patients with aphasia or dysphagia, patients who are experiencing trach / ventilator dependence and patients recovering from brain injury.

Janine T. DiCarlo, M.A. CCC/SLP

Staff Speech Language Pathologist

Janine DiCarlo received her undergraduate degree in 1984 from the University of Rochester, and she completed her Master’s degree in 1987 from SUNY Geneseo.

Janine’s specialty areas include treating patients with dysphagia, neurogenic communication disorders and cochlear implants. Away from work, Janine enjoys scrapbooking and cross stitch.

Enid F. Hymes, M.A.

Senior Speech Pathologist

Enid Hymes holds an M.A. degree in Speech Pathology from Trenton State College.  She is certified in Tracheo-esophageal puncture, FEES, and Specialty Recognition in Stuttering.  Enid specializes in treating speech and swallowing difficulties as a result of head/neck cancer, stuttering, foreign accent reduction and trach / ventilator dependence.

Away from work, Enid enjoys aerobics, dancing, reading, gardening and traveling.

Judith Kennedy, M.S.

Senior Speech Language Pathologist

Associate in Neurology

Judith Kennedy attended Elmira College, University of Rochester, and Nazareth College and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology as well as a master’s degree in Education / Speech Pathology.  Her special areas of practice include neurogenic speech and language disorders, voice and swallowing.

Judith is certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (for Parkinson’s Disease); by the Language Care Center in Lingraphicare (treatment of Aphasia); and in Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS).

Tamara Krawczyk-Hoffritz, M.A.

Speech Language Pathologist

Tamara received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Albany and completed a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Springfield College.

Her special areas of interest include treating dysphagia in adults and children, aphasia and pediatric language disorders.
