Goals and Objectives

Training in advanced urologic laparoscopy and robotics.

Responsibilities of the fellow include perioperative and intraoperative care of patients undergoing complex laparoscopic urologic procedures. This includes operating on the adrenals, kidneys, bladder, and prostate. The fellow will also be involved in performing daVinci robotic urologic procedures (robotic prostatectomies, pyeloplasties, etc). Our program has a very large volume of minimally invasive urologic surgeries. Graded surgical responsibility will be given to the fellow for individual operative cases. Data collection, analysis, and presentations at national meetings are an integral part of this fellowship.

The fellow will have protected time to pursue clinical and basic science research opportunities. Additional responsibilities will include participation in teaching residents and medical students in the evaluation and treatment of patients in all aspects of urology, with particular emphasis on laparoscopy and robotics. The fellow will be involved as a participant and instructor in ongoing dry and wet laboratory sessions designed for the residents and medical students.

  • Strong Memorial Hospital is a 665-bed academic medical center equipped with state-of-the-art operating rooms designed for advanced laparoscopic procedures.
  • The fellow will also have opportunities to operate at Highland Hospital with the minimally invasive faculty. This a 238-bed hospital located less than 2 miles from Strong Memorial Hospital, which is part of the Strong Health System.
  • The adjacent medical school has a very active animal research facility with several full-time veterinarians and technicians, to allow laparoscopic animal surgeries.
