Pizza Hut introduces a line of great tasting Health Check™ menu items available only in BC
Vancouver, BC: Pizza lovers in Canada’s healthiest province*, British Columbia, will be the first in Canada to get a slice of Pizza Hut’s new line of menu items that meet the nutrient criteria of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Health Check™ program.
“Starting today, Pizza Hut restaurants across BC will be dishing up delicious multigrain pizza crusts and hearty Mediterranean-inspired, oven-baked wholegrain pastas — all made using the goodness of whole grains and fresh healthy ingredients!” says David Pullara, Senior Marketing Manager, Pizza Hut. “Pizza Hut’s product excellence team has been hard at work, scrutinizing every last detail to ensure the perfect balance of taste and nutrition.”
The new recipes, all of which reflect the great taste and quality that has made Pizza Hut an international success, feature a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
The pizzas are topped with healthy ingredients including grilled chicken and pesto-marinated tomato slices, while the veggie-laden pastas feature a combination of feta and mozzarella cheeses, roasted red peppers, red onions, green peppers, olives and an old world tomato sauce. All recipes were carefully developed to meet Health Check’s strict nutrient criteria for sodium, fat and protein content.
“Pizza Hut’s new partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Health Check Dining Program provides new, healthier choices for customers across the province,” said Ida Chong, B.C. Minister of Healthy Living and Sport. “The Health Check Dining Program’s success is built on its variety of menu options that are both tasty and healthy.”
“We know that many people want healthy choices when they dine out and having Health Check on the Pizza Hut menu helps them easily identify those healthy options,” says Julie Lau, Heart and Stroke Foundation registered dietitian for BC. “And with well-trained staff to answer questions and nutrition information available about the Health Check items, Pizza Hut customers will know what’s in the healthy options.”
The Health Check™ BC Dining Program, funded by the provincial government in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation BC and Yukon since 2006, is a food information program designed to improve the health of British Columbians by providing healthier menu options in BC restaurants. The program supports local producers and celebrates the many healthy products that are produced in British Columbia by featuring BC food products when available.
